I was thinking about what to call this frozen fruit treat inspired by the famous ice cream from Disneyland. If you haven’t had the chance to try the original, for you this will simply be pineapple ice cream in a glass, and for those who have, this recipe will be an opportunity to improvise at home and remember the Disney euphoria.
This sweet will cool you down wonderfully during the summer heat, but you can make it all year round because it uses ingredients that are constantly available to us now. If you are not a fan of pineapple, feel free to replace it with almost any frozen fruit and related juice such as strawberry, raspberry, orange, peach…
What is Dole Whip?
Dole Whip is a pineapple ice cream, created by the American company Dole and served in Disneyland since 1986. It soon became so popular that people waited in long lines to be treated to it. Originally it consisted of only three ingredients – frozen pieces of pineapple, vanilla ice cream and pineapple juice, and later it was made from non-dairy (vegan) milk, sugar and natural flavors and colors.
I made the pineapple ice cream in front of you following the original list of ingredients, combining it in a way that I hope produced at least an approximately authentic taste. And please check it out and let me know your impressions.
Pineapple ice cream in a glass
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen pineapple (one small pineapple)
- 1.2 dl of pineapple juice
- 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
Instructions
Clean the pineapple, then cut it into pieces.
Place them on a tray separated so they don't stick together, and freeze.
Place the frozen pieces, vanilla ice cream and pineapple juice in a high-powered blender.
Mix, occasionally open the lid and remove the mass from the walls of the container with a spatula
Continue mixing until you get a uniform creamy mixture.
Transfer it to a confectioner's bag or a stronger nylon bag, having previously inserted a star attachment into it
Put it back in the freezer for half an hour.
Extrude the mass in a spiral into a circle and serve.
