How to Make Candy Stick

Reading Time: 4 minutes

I didn’t notice where these interesting and decorative large sugar crystals on a stick can be bought in our country, so I didn’t try them before I made the homemade version and I don’t know how much I missed the taste in addition to the appearance. Although, in my opinion, Rock Candy on a stick is more for looking than eating.

Basically, they are a nice variation of the lollipop theme, and I should be satisfied. The composition of these crystals is sugar and water with the addition of edible color and flavor to taste, so if you are still tempted, please try it.

Do they pay off?
I’m not sure because only two Rock candy sticks are made from as many as four small cups of sugar, which is somewhere around 3 dl. But, well, sugar isn’t that expensive either, so you decide for yourself.

How long can I stand?

I will admit that my recipe got lost among the 60 or so that are waiting to see the light of day or the court of the public together with the photos in the folders of my computer. I didn’t make a typo. I was surprised myself when I realized how much more productive I am in the phase of preparing and photographing food compared to the pace at which I put them in shape on the blog.

Otherwise, these decorative sticks have been decorating my desk for more than a year! So they don’t have any problem.

What to do with Rock Candy sticks?

I know they’re not particularly tasty unless you’re a huge lollipop fan. But they are very decorative and you can use them to decorate your desk like me or even place them as cake toppers.

Preparation of sticks and sugar syrup part II

Preparation:

First of all:
Wet one end of a wooden stick, roll it in granulated sugar and let it dry.
Repeat the procedure with the other stick.

ADVICE: Cover the stick with sugar in the length that will be immersed in the sugar solution.

Sugar solution:
In a suitable container with a handle, heat the water until it boils.
Then add one cup of sugar and stir until it is completely dissolved.
Only then pour the next dose, mix and cook until the new amount of sugar dissolves.
Repeat the process until you have added all 4 cups.

NOTE: It is very important that you observe this gradual addition of sugar and that all the amount is completely dissolved in water, because only in this way will you get a syrup that will crystallize in the desired way.
Remove the dish from the heat, then add color and aroma as desired.

Placing the sticks in the sugar solution

Stick Placement:

Divide the cooled, but still very warm solution into two glasses.
ADVICE: Ten minutes should pass from the moment you remove the dish from the heat.
Dip the stick into each so that it does not touch the walls of the bowl, neither the bottom nor the sides.
TIP: This is especially important because otherwise, you won’t be able to separate the crystals on the stick from the glass without breaking it, which you definitely don’t want.
To maintain the optimal position of the sticks, use tongs to “pinch” them, and then place the tongs horizontally on the upper edges of the glass (see preparation photos).
Leave the glasses with chopsticks in a place out of direct sunlight and away from children.
NOTE: I would not be able to determine which of the two is more important to eliminate in order to ensure the success of this call experiment. I only know what is harder to control.

Separation of crystals on a stick from glasses

Separation of finished Sweets:

After five to seven days, the sugar syrup should crystallize to a significant and sufficient extent, and by gently tapping, break the crystals around and pull out the stick with the Rock Candy sweet crystals on the stick.

NOTE: If after 6 hours of placing the stick you don’t notice that the sugar crystals start to “seize”, they probably won’t.
PLUS TIP: In this case, you can reheat the solution, then add another cup of sugar and stir while heating until it dissolves. Repeat the process of placing new sticks and you might get lucky. For me, it is purple.
