Pears contain a large amount of pectin, more than apples, so they are very suitable for the preparation of jams and compotes, so for the preparation of marmalades, jams, and marmalades, it is necessary to choose an incompletely ripe fruit that contains larger amounts of pectin, while for the preparation of juices and brandy, ripe pears are suitable with a higher amount of natural sugar.
When shopping, choose only slightly soft, firm, and undamaged fruits, greenish-yellow or light green in color. You can find them in stores or local markets during the season.
Pear juice is an ideal refreshment that you can enjoy at almost any time of the year. It is popular among children, but even the elderly are not immune to its rich taste.
To prepare homemade, thick pear juice, you will only need a few ingredients and a little time. You will get 7 – 8 liters of fresh juice from the specified amount of ingredients, and the preparation itself will take about an hour.
Pear Juice
Ingredients
- 5 kg of pears
- 3 liters of water
- 500 g of white sugar (depending on the sweetness of the fruit and your taste)
- Juice of two lemons
- 1 sachet of preservative (optional)
Instructions
Thoroughly wash all pears, cut them in half, and remove seeds and damaged parts of the flesh
Cut into smaller pieces and put in a pot
Pour enough water into the pan to cover the pears (about 2 l)
Cook them over moderate heat until they soften (approximately 30 - 40 minutes)
When they are soft, remove them from the stove and chop them until you get a thick mixture without large pieces of pears. Return to the stove
Add 4 glasses of water (about 1 l), white sugar, and lemon juice to the pears and cook until it boils
When it boils, remove it from the stove, add preservatives as desired, and stir
Pour the thick juice into sterilized glass bottles and let them cool at room temperature before storing them in the cellar or pantry
