One of the first associations with a rich and healthy breakfast is definitely orange juice obtained by squeezing orange fruit. Various commercial ready-made juices are popular and readily available, but tasty and healthier varieties can be easily prepared in almost any kitchen.

Orange Juice

The juice can be prepared by simply squeezing half an orange in a citrus strainer or from concentrate, where the juice is rehydrated after drying, which extends the life of the drink. In addition to its refreshing taste, orange juice is also known for its high content of vitamin C, which is necessary for a healthy body.

Although there are several types of oranges, the best varieties for juicing are red oranges, large California oranges, and Valencia oranges.

Oranges are particularly sensitive to an increased percentage of carbon dioxide and a lack of oxygen. Therefore, if you save a small amount of fruit from the garden before preparing the juice, you can wrap it in paper or a straw and put it in a box or plastic bag that needs to be pierced and kept at a temperature of up to 10°C.

During the purchase, it is necessary to pay attention to the choice of fruits without damage, spots, or mold on the surface. The pulp of orange shows the juiciness of the fruit, so choose the largest fruits that have a higher proportion of natural juice in them.

Orange Juice preparation

If you are inclined to try new exotic flavors, try mixing two or more types of oranges. For example, mixing Valencia and red oranges will add new notes of taste and freshness to your juice.

You can also combine oranges with other citrus fruits, carrots, melons, apples, peaches, and nectarines in the ratio that suits you best. Add a mint of your choice. Since oranges are rich in natural sweeteners, it is not necessary to add sugar, but if you prefer sweeter drinks, you can always add a few drops of stevia or a spoonful of sugar.

Orange juice will come in handy during warm summer and spring days as a refreshment or in the morning with breakfast and coffee. In addition to being healthier than commercial ones, homemade juice has advantages such as the ability to regulate the amount of sugar in it, citric acid, and flavors that suit you better.

Nothing tastes better than homemade orange juice. From the ingredients in the recipe, you will get approximately 10 to 12 liters of juice.
